Finding Nature Through Play

Islington Play Association's ‘Finding Nature through Play' project was set up to enable children to create mini nature reserves providing homes and food sources for birds, insects and other native wildlife.

This project was delivered at Islington's adventure playgrounds and parks, where children and their playworkers enhanced 12 playgrounds. Children dug ponds, planted hedgerows, trees and shrubs; they built insect hotels, earth and turf sculptures and clay ovens.

The project was originally funded to run from October 2010 to October 2012, however Natural England decided to fund the project for an extra year so that we can create even more opportunities for children to explore and adapt their constantly evolving play environments.

The ‘Finding Nature Through Play' project is funded by Natural England through Access to Nature, as part of the Big Lottery Fund's Changing Spaces programme. We are very grateful to them for their support.
