Treehouse Project

Islington Play Association was awarded a £245k grant from the Big Lottery's 'Playful Ideas' fund for their 'Treehouses for Islington' project, which ran from March 2009 to late summer 2012. The Tree House Project Worker, Wendy Jeeves, enabled children at 24 sites across the borough to build their own treehouses, shelters and dens under the guidance of specialist play professionals. This project empowered children to take a larger part in creating and altering their own play spaces. Structures were approved by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA). IPA has shared know-how with other play providers regionally and nationally through a ROSPA-approved 'how-to' manual "Slow Down Building in Progress" so that children across the country will be able to safely share this thrilling experience.
