Important update regarding Islington Play Association (IPA)

Important update regarding Islington Play Association (IPA)
We are aware of some recent speculation regarding the future of IPA. We want to reassure our community that IPA currently continues to operate and deliver its services, and we are continuing to meet our obligations to suppliers in the usual way.As a result of a number of external and operational factors, the Trustees are currently considering a range of strategic options for IPA. This work is being undertaken with the support of external professional advisors, staff, IPA leadership and funders. As the Trustees continue to consider these options, the IPA is pausing new nursery entrants to Paradise Park Children’s Centre and have informed staff that some jobs may be at risk of redundancy.

IPA is committed to minimising any disruption to IPA staff, and the children and families who use our services, as much as possible and will provide further updates as appropriate.

A message on behalf of our Trustees

After over 50 years working with children and families in Islington, IPA has been impacted by a number of external and operational factors. These include ongoing permanent staffing challenges, changes in funding and increasing operation costs, such as significant repairs bills, rising energy costs, changes in national insurance contributions, the London Living Wage and the increased cost of resources and supplies.

We are aware of the valuable services that IPA’s adventure playgrounds and Paradise Park Children’s Centre provide to the families of Islington. We will continue to explore strategic options for IPA with support from expert legal and professional advisors.  We are committed to operating in a responsible, transparent and legally compliant way, that minimises any disruption to our community.

For children and families

While we continue to consider the long-term options for IPA, Paradise Park Children’s Centre will not be accepting any new applications for nursery places. For children currently enrolled, childcare provision will continue as usual. The adventure playgrounds remain open and children can continue to use them without any change in service. We will be in touch with all families, or the public, should this situation change.

For staff

In line with employment law, IPA staff in affected areas have been notified that their roles are at risk of redundancy.  We are engaging with staff and their representatives in a formal consultation process before any decisions are made.  Our aim is to explore all reasonable options to avoid redundancies, reduce the number of roles affected and mitigate any impact.

For funders and partners

We will provide tailored updates and briefings as relevant.

For contractors and suppliers

We currently continue to operate as usual and meet our obligations.

We want to express our heartfelt thanks for everyone who has supported IPA over the years. We politely ask for your respect and patience as we manage this period. We are working to maintain the long-term position of IPA, and we appreciate everyone’s help in doing so.
