Replacing Martin Luther King Playground’s building

IPA are working with partners, supporters and the community to replace our ageing building at Martin Luther King Adventure Playground that’s no longer fit for purpose. Poorly situated, with an inflexible layout and little natural light, it’s hard to supervise children or accommodate different age groups and activities. We want to replace the existing building with one which lets play flow from inside to out. A more flexible layout better connected to the exterior will create a true community hub, capable of hosting outdoor classroom days for schools, children’s parties and other community events.

We will be consulting with the local community to gather ideas and support for an exciting new adventure playground, making sure that children’s own ideas are incorporated. We are aiming for changes to start in Autumn 2017 – watch this space!

MLK Adventure Playground is one of Islington’s oldest and most popular adventure playgrounds with over 11,000 child visits last year. The playground is integral to the local community, a resource that helps children develop self-confidence, self-esteem and resilience while supporting their parents. Relationships built here extend into all other walks of life. Investing in a new building will allow us renew an invaluable resource, and open our doors to even more people
